New Semester/ New Opportunities
by Johnny and Tammy Brown
As the new semester begins we are excited to see the return of our student family. Each week we continue to see many new faces. Pictured above is a Wednesday and Thursday night snapshot this September.
Our vision is to assist young men and women to be all that God has designed them to be. Mentally, physically, and most important Spiritually.
We have a number of sayings at Campus Connection, one of them being, when you come for the first time, ‘You come as a guest, and you leave as FAMILY’. We are very intentional to make each person feel a part of our ever growing family. That is one of the key elements of our ministry. Each night we meet, a home cooked meal is part of what we do. Tammy does an excellent job to prepare great meals each week. She also has a menu for those with food allergies, and for those with special dietary needs. WHY? You ask, because that is what families do.
Currently we meet three (3) nights a week with the same format. We refer to these nights as the EXPERIENCE. The reason we call it the Experience, is because we do not want someone to have preconceived notions of what Campus Connection is all about. If someone says ‘Hey, do you want to come to a Bible Study?’ Automatically, the person builds 2-3 paragraphs and prejudges what someone is asking them to attend. While we are never offended by the Gospel, and in no way want to deceive, we feel it is important for each person to come and decide for themselves if the Experience is for them. As our family grows, we will continue to expand the nights we meet. We are committed to meet every night of the week, if that what it takes to accommodate everyone who wants to attend.
During the time we take to open God’s word, we look at the meaning of various paragraphs, and our goal is to let everyone see what the meaning has to do with them. We do not teach history. We show what God wants us to know TODAY, and how we may use what He shows us. Many have taken this information and decided to accept Christ. While others have enhanced their journey of faith.
We have the privilege to mentor and assist young men and women with day-to-day issues. The issues are both physical and spiritual.
Physical issues, may mean tutoring. We offer, tutoring, especially in the Computer Science arena. We have tutored many student throughout the years. We not only teach them what is imperative for tests, we also instruct them on key aspects of the course and how it should be leveraged once in the business community.
Living life together, computer repairs, car repairs, medical appointments, etc. We want the best for our students, and assist them when appropriate.
Spiritually. We find being away from home for the first time, growing pains of being a young adult, feeling lost, alone, and even afraid are all common within the student population. We provide life/mentor coaching. Leveraging our training, experience and most important, what God has to say about the subject gives us a framework to assist students.
Our core belief is that God has an individual plan for everyone. God wants a personal relationship, and loves each one no matter what. The 838 in our name points to Romans 8:38. Talking about NOTHING can separate us from God’s love. He loves us, because He has decided to love us, and nothing can separate us from that.
A typical night at the Experience. How home away from home. As you can see, we are in the Living room, dining room, hallway, as well as the foyer. Living life together and learning the things God has for all.
As we teach God’s love, we see more and more plug into the power God has given us called PRAYER.
